Launched in June 2005, the Gold Award competition is open to housing associations able to demonstrate outstanding performance in key areas of business. The award aims to identify excellence and raise operational standards for the benefit of residents across the sector.
The Gold Award seeks to recognise and promote the achievements of the most forward thinking teams in the social housing sector.
Over 70 associations applied for a Gold Award 2008. There are nine winners catergory, three in each of the following categories: Building Cohesive Communities; Delivering Joined-up Development and Tackling Worklessness. The Papworth Trust wins in the catergory of Building Cohesive Communities for The Foundations for Living project.

Ashram Housing Association is a winner of the Housing Corporation Gold Award for its ground-breaking work in tackling community issues. The award focuses on the innovative work that Ashram is involved in around sports inclusion, community design and advocacy for some of the most marginalised communities within the West Midlands region. Through their work Ashram helps to bring together different communities that participate in local, inter-neighbourhood and wider civic arenas.

Old Ford Housing Association, which is part of Circle Anglia, was set up in 1998 as the successor to Tower Hamlets Housing Action Trust. It has redeveloped more than 1,000 homes on three estates in Bow and established a thriving community development programme for residents and local people.

Newlon Housing Trust is a charitable housing association founded in Hackney in 1968 to provide decent and affordable homes for local people.
In 2008 as they celebrate their 40th anniversary they provide more than 6,000 homes across north and east London and they remain as committed as they were in 1968 to supporting the needs of one of the UK’s most diverse communities.
They provide a range of housing options from General Needs renting to Shared Ownership, as well as innovative Intermediate Rent schemes for Key Workers. Through their partner organisation Outward they also provide supported housing services for the elderly and people with learning disabilities and a wide range of support needs.

D&S owns and manages 3,000 homes in Keswick, Cockermouth, Workington.
Working closely with Allerdale BC, D&S is committed to improving the lives of residents and the neighbourhoods where they live. It does this by working in partnership with a number of agencies, people and residents to improve the whole community and neighbourhood - not just the homes.
