News: Dragon's Den Doug Richard to Judge The Grand Challenge

19/08/2008

Taylor Vinters and Marshalls Aerospace are firing up their entrepreneurial skills to face Doug Richard one of the original Dragons from the Dragon's Den. They are two of twenty five teams who have already signed up to take part in The Grand Challenge an exciting, innovative fundraising contest being launched by the Papworth Trust.

The Papworth Trust is challenging teams of between three and six people, with a budget not exceeding £1,000, to develop and create their own fundraising initiative in an ?Apprentice Style Fundraising Contest'. It is stressed that the £1,000 really is a maximum given that this Challenge is about people's ability to generate as much money as possible from as little as possible. As well as raising money to support the work of The Papworth Trust, one of the UK's leading disability charities many teams are using it as a team building and training tool as it will use marketing, selling and entrepreneurial skills to find out who really is the best.

Doug Richard is delighted to be involved in this venture by being a member of the judging panel and says:

?To bring the competitive spirit and the entrepreneurial spirit into such a worthy cause as Papworth Trust and its objectives concerning disability is such a positive move - I applaud it wholeheartedly. To engage teams in companies to grow donations from an initial investment is a really innovative idea - and gives those participating a real world challenge."

Graeme Byrne, Head of Fundraising said ?We are honoured to have Doug on the judging panel who will not only be awarding prizes to teams that raise the most money but will be judging a number of other categories which will include amongst others most innovative fundraising idea and best initiative plan."
